Into the blue... "LIFE BEGINS AT THE END OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE"

I live in Jurassic Park :)

What a top day...apart from the breakfast of burnt porridge and papaya, which I've decided I don't like at all (papaya that is, not porridge).

We were given options this morning in terms of work. Caesar needed groups to cut down dead banana trees for the compost, help fix various plumbing issues around the station and hike to various parts of the area and photograph birds, describe their habitat, what they were eating and generally where they were. Can you guess what I picked? :)

Becca (from the UK) and I hiked up as far as we could go through the forest until we lost the trail (then obviously stopped as we didn't really need a search party sent out) whilst taking pics of native birds and getting as much info about them as possible. The views from up there were breathtaking...and we were just waiting for a T-Rex or a Raptor to appear out of the jungle ( I would have preferred Jeff Goldblum, but hey ho). I swear...they could have filmed Jurassic Park here...mist was rolling in, we could make out the coast from our vantage point...and I didn't want to come down! But we were starving....

Lunch was a typical mix of carb, carb and more carb...but felt I needed it today.

At 2pm we all assembled as per normal...and Caeser asked if we fancied a game of football followed by beer....ummmm....do you even need to ask! We walked the 10mins to the local bar (I say bar, but I mean a building run by an old Eduardorian couple with a pool table and some actually, decent tables and chairs). There is a large plot of land out front and we played football for a few hours...then had the only beer available...Pilsner (turns out I'm not a fan...but choices up here are few...so bring on the Pilsner!). If you fancy a rum, apparently you need to buy the bottle for US$15 and the coke for US$5 and mix it yourself. I hear this is what keeps peeps here entertained on a Thursday night...is it really only Tuesday!?

Another day almost over, another journal entry written in a hammock and I'm getting to know my fellow volunteers...which ones I think I will gel with, who I might travel with...

Till tomorrow X

Ps. Have named our resident spiders George and Henry...I'm hoping this will endear them to me. It's not working so far.
Pps. Cold showers are not as bad as you would expect...
Ppps. 9pm for most of us is bed time as we are woken up by a v v annoying rooster at 5am daily... struggled to make it last night...but success :)
