Ilan has officially moved in in Beijing. And he lives closer to me than any of my other friends. I feel it safe to say that I have a neighbor. He's only an hour away.
That's right. An hour. He lives on my side of town (the Chaoyang District). The closest subway to his house is the same as mine (Da Wang Lu), and yet it still takes roughly one hour to get to him.
Ridiculous.
This city is too damn big with too few subways. That is my conclusion.
Anyway, the neighbor thing is working out. He came over tonight so that I could bring him to the market near my house. I sniffed out the cheap places to buy necessities pretty quickly, and I love sharing that knowledge with the lowly teachers of the English.
We bought some DVDs and had some dinner. Then he basically had to jet back across the district to his house before the buses stopped running. Because they stop early. And it's pretty far to walk.
But, anyway, I seem to have a neighbor. Of sorts.
