Egypt! It feels so incredible to wear my hair down, to sit and not be sweating or sticky. It’s definitely weird to look around and only see orange, though. Sand, sun, buildings, there’s no getting away from it. Dust and dirt everywhere. The driving here is by far the worst out of all the countries. I wouldn’t dare drive a moto in this country. I would want a metal box around me to keep me safe. It’s crazy! The other thing that’s gotten worse in this country are the men, the looks, words and gestures. It’s sickening.
I miss having locals in the house with us and never seeing half naked men lazing around the living room but it is definitely nice to have dinner with just us. It’s the time where we come together again. It brings us all back together as family. When we don’t have this time our family falls apart. We need frequent family times. Dinner is good for that. It’s a nice quiet time to laugh about stuff. We’ve really grown and learned a lot about each other over the past month. We have a nice level of openness and trust. We finally know how each other work—sort of.
Our team is not a children ministry team. We are definitely youth, relationship, and evangelism though! After three and a half months we finally realize where we are good, one month to use it!
We were all told we have spiritual gifts of worship but Boram is the only one who can play and pretty much the only one who can sin too. We all get a bit of recharge and a lot of God from worship but as a team we’re not musical. We don’t dance but do we have three skits, Noah, Made to Love, and Everything. So far those have worked really well for us. We haven’t had a chance to do them lots but it sounds like we will here in Egypt. We’re not strong with kids, but when we do labour work or prayer walks we do pretty well. Yes we can do it all, especially through God’s strength and grace, but building relationships, sharing our testimonies through conversations and being able to relate to the age and point in life of the person or people we are talking to is where God has blessed us. Now that we know this we can really focus on our strengths.
Our team likes to experience every ministry though so we never really turn anything down. Perhaps that’s another one of our weak points—speaking up. We hate to step on people’s toes. But we are becoming really good at last minute, go with the flow and improvise. It’s been cool watching our team grow and adapt in these ways. Some people used to need every detail right away but have adapted to the ways of free falling in this culture. Those of us who like to free fall and who finally have the opportunity to do so still make sure we share the random details we find out with the rest of the group.
