My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Filling my Soul. The first morning I woke up to capture the Mandakini river, I adjusted my tripod and was waiting for the right sunrise time. As the little bit of light struck the area, it felt a sense of serene beauty and I could feel the calmness of the river. I just sat there filling my eyes with the breathtaking view in search of some peace. This was an experience of a lifetime and now it does not exist as this place is now fully submerged in mud due to the recent Uttrakhand Flash Floods.

Hi,
Syaksaur was amazing. We went there 3 months ago, the serenity of the place just does not go out of my mind. Sitting beside the calm mandakini. Taking in the purity of the surroundings. Since the news of flash floods have come, I am trying to get to knw, what has happened to the guest house, cause it was bang onthe bank. Do you have any info?

Syalsaur is a nature lover's paradise. It was full of beauty and peace untill this disaster in uttrakhand happened. This flash flood due to heavy rains, cloud burst, landslides and a glacier break had led to flooding of the state's rivers, Alaknanda, Mandakini and Bhagirathi with slush. It has swept away many vehicles, rest houses, 90 dharamshalas and complete Kedarnath Rambada area. Syalsaur's guest house has been swept away due to the rise in water level. It will take approximately 1 year to restore the area from Rudraprayag to Kedarnath. Rescue process is still on for people stuck in Uttrakhand.

Over 1000 pilgrims are camping in Guptkashi in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district after getting stranded on their way back from Kedarnath. Guptkashi is 20 km from Syalsaur and 39 km from Kedarnath where the maximum numbers of pilgrims are feared dead. The pilgrims are waling on foot back from August Muni ashram, Ukhimath and have to climb further up to Fata which has a helipad from where they can be airlifted. Helipads have been built in Gaurikund, Ram Bara and Jungle Chatti. Over 3000 stranded pilgrims had been camping at Guptkashi, Ukhimath and Rudraprayad. At the relief camps in these areas, the joint teams of army and local are providing food and bedding to pilgrims. Guptkashi now has linkages and Airforce sorties that are going on at regular intervals. State of Guptkashi and Syalsaur is far from normal having suffered extensive damage but is now becoming a nodal point for rescue and relief.
