A Few of My Favorite Things

A Few of My Favorite Things

These are a few of my favorite things!!  I’ve been in Peru for 3 months now.  I’ve been asked, “What do you love about it?”  There are many intangible things I love about Peru—the people, the relationships, the Christian community among the Mission and churches and even some of the food.  But there are a few things I love that are just “stuff”.  So, I thought I’d share just a couple of my favorite things Peruvian.  First, is the ofereta.  Peruvians love to have a sale or gift with purchase.  An example of this would be when I bought my stove, refrigerator, and washing machine.  With these purchases I also got a microwave, blender and rice cooker—because all came with a gift.  Peruvians love to bundle things in groups to buy (like an iron, rice cooker and waffle maker) or offer a gift with purchase.  Also, they like the ofereta!  Such as in the picture—2 for 1!!  And this is a double favorite of mine, not only is it an ofereta, but it is my favorite cleaning product.  Allow me to introduce you to Auydin.  This is the world’s best dish washing soap.  For those of you that know me, you know how much I love to clean and some may say I am obsessive compulsive about it.  So you know if I think it is a good thing, it has to be good!  I do not have hot water for my washing machine or in my kitchen sink, but this still makes me feel like I am getting my dishes so clean.  And it smells great.  I love washing the dishes even more!  This is  why Ayudin and an ofereta of 2 for 1 are 2 of my favorite things.  One of my other favorites is Cancha Chulpi.  This snack of fried corn kernels is delicious.  They serve it at many restaurants and also at the roadside vendor that is selling beans.  They are so yummy!  And addictive!  You can also buy it in the grocery stores.  I love it!

So there you have a few of my favorite things – an ofereta, ayudin, and cancha chulpi!!  If you are ever in Peru, be sure to check them out!

And I was all excited because I thought that ayudin stuff was play-do. It turns out to be SOAP. Does it foam up like bubble bath? I notice it comes with its own loofah.
