Monkey Men Invade!

Today while heating my lunch I was happily entertained by a monkey trying to get in to the hostel cafeteria through the bars of the window, but was quickly scared away by the security guards. I found it all very amusing, and sat watching the silly things for some time…the little monkeys are cute and quite playful at that. I heated my lunch and returned upstairs to the common area to eat it. I was enjoying my teacher’s homemade curry and some Chapattis when I saw some little eyes coming down the stairs from the roof terrace! I quickly tried to shoo them away with some loud noises and banging on the chairs. They only looked me straight in the eyes and came for my plate of food.
I began to scream and went running down the hall to my room…I was freaked out to say the least…what kind of animal isn’t afraid of a bigger human making plenty of noise and shouting at them. Soon the security guards and everyone who was around to hear came running because my screams were blood curdling enough to think my life was in danger, or I was bleeding profusely. The guard did his best and quickly shooed all three back out the roof exit, but not before they’d taken my Chapattis—dirty scoundrels ruined my yummy lunch.
Long story short, I finished my lunch downstairs with the security guards and returned to the common area some 30 minutes later to find them sitting on the table hooting and hollering for more food. They had taken the liberty to poop everywhere too!!! Some of the other girls in the hostel told me they had food stolen and rummaged through…seems they came through the windows.
It seems that there will be excitement up until I leave in one week. I’m still battling some minor stomach issues, but the doc. promises me we’ll get me back to normal before I return. Despite all this I also have misplaced my wallet—I think I’ve packed it somewhere…and so I’ve had to cancel my CC’s and all. Fortunately there wasn’t any cash in it, only ids and cards, and I have my passport safely kept. So I’ve been slightly stressed over it all…but knowing me it’ll turn up again once I’ve returned to the states and unpacked.
Over and out for now…it’s a busy week filled with finals, a term paper, packing, and rehearsal for my solo Bharathanatyam dance performance next Wednesday amidst facing the fact that I’m leaving my Indian home. Yet another transition…not sure I’m ready to come back to the full-paced west, but I’m def. ready to eat something besides curry and processed cheese! Namaste
