My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Afghanistan | Thursday, July 4, 2013 | 5 photos
To photograph and explore the cultural traditions of people and their lands is what makes my heart sing. In the past decade I’ve changed my career to create more flexibility to fulfill this desire. From sipping sweet coffee with Palestinian leaders in Beirut, eating home cooked meals in Tehran to watching card games in Istanbul teahouses. My camera and the moments I've captured, along with the knowledge I've gained from exploring the world continues to inspire and surprise me.
I've taken classes at International Center of Photography, in NYC (my hometown having emigrated from Ireland) and workshops with Nikos Economopoulos from Magnum gaining knowledge and experience. Learning this craft is ongoing for me, which is why I would love to be mentored by Jason, and learn how to photograph on a real assignment.
My camera has opened the doors into the lives of others, where I got to witness and photograph. What I love about photography is creating stories that can be used to inform people of how life is been lived in near and faraway places. Been chosen to go to Greenland is an experience that I would cherish and build upon as I continue my path to becoming a photographer.
