The lake is unusually shallow, around two to three meters so the locals developed a distinctive technique which includes battering the water surface with an oar to guide the fish in one direction.

After renting a boat in Nyaungshwe main dock, we set out one morning to discover how the locals spend their mornings on Inle Lake. On the pale horizon small dots occur separating the sky and the lake. They move in a group as a fish shoal united in one cause - to bring home the bacon or in this case fish.

While on the other side a net is spread to catch these intentionally startled fish. The locals demonstrate their extreme skillfulness by standing at the stern and rowing with their leg as they are spreading the nets with their hands.
