As I said, we got ready and were pumped to dance and drink all night - the FMP was the climax of our Thailand trip (we thought). We wandered around the sunrise beach area (after getting through the police cordon) for awhile, but noticed that all roads and bars leading to the beach had been nailed and boarded (literally) up! Initially we thought they maybe opened them later on as a method of crowd control, but then we found out the true reason, which was much worse. Two Swedish girls had drowned and another two were in hospital after being caught in rips that day! Its been really rought and stormy weather and there is no way I would have been going into the water. Anyway, the police had apparently decided to cancel the FMP because the ocean was still really dangerous and 1000's of drunk people on the beach would have just been a recipe for trouble. by cancel, I mean what they did was not allow any of the bars on the beach to play music (thus killing any atmosphere). Jess and I sat for awhile and people watched - we must have been pretty loud because later on in the night a couple of guys came up to us and made a joke about our categories! They had been sitting next to us and had heard and understood it all!
We met up with Steel and Patrick again and were coerced into trying mushroom shakes. They taste like dirt (literally) and mae us giggle like schoolgirls. There was a really weird mood in the crowd, everyone was primed for a massive rave but there was no music. People were just wandering the streets and there was a kind of latent dissapointment, for awhile we thought things might get nasty - muckily not. Met an Irish guy called Gavin, very nice - talked for quite awhile. Had a great night all in all despite the FMP cancellation (first time for this in at least 6yrs apparently!) and we didn't get home until 7am - saw the sunrise which would have been better if there wasn't so much cloud cover. We got like 2hrs sleep before we had to catch out ferry....
