My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Croatia | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos
I have taken these photographs and memories during my visit to Croatia in 2009. First time after a long decade, my little family of three has returned to the motherland to meet with parents, sisters, brothers, friends .. newborns.
Truly excited! Armed with lots of enthusiasm, old bedtime stories told over and over again to ignite sweet anticipation, and a little Leica D-Lux 3 camera, we’ve set on a journey of a lifetime. We have recorded hundreds of images, written thousands of lines into our hearts, but here we share just a few with you. But those are sincerest.
Inside this gallery there are captions for each image, sequentially conveying a wider story beyond peoples and place we have visited. Story seemingly simple, but memories too opulent. It also stands as a sad reminder on why I have left my home too, and migrated into Australia. This journey has reconnected me with past, a new home with an old one, opened a way into a new future. A full circle.
I work as a graphic artist, but never was a full-time photographer, or even part-time. Just an amateur who loves the art, but above all storytelling and education. For me this challenge and Scholarship means opening up to a world where one can positively impact the lives of others.
National Geographic (NG) for me means geography of the mind, a hope for the soul. I have learned English by reading it in my childhood, sailed together with Thor Heyerdahl on his Ra II in my imagination, explored Australian deserts I was dreaming to visit one day, helping NG photographers take captions for each image that one day may change someone’s life for better.
Photographs here were taken with a simple pocket camera, but recorded flawlessly into my mind. From there I’m giving them back to you. Hope you’ll appreciate my humble attempt.
