    At the church door, between this world and one of hope, all bathed in afternoon haze, three generations stand together. Smiles hover as families and friends meet again, now bonding through a wedding and a baptism. Instantly everything makes sense; life continues. Everyone shares happiness. It is good. It is good to be back home. Views[431] Finally arrived! Gentle song of sea birds fulfil the image of a perfect afternoon; embraced in crisp, salty air, Sumartin glows like a city vista painting of a Renaissance master; everything is there as it should be, proportioned as best of memories: both nearness of sea and distance of mountains, generation houses, narrow pathways, stone walls and docks, and even that puffy, little cloud above utters ‘Welcome back’. Views[251] Driving though winding, narrow roads of the island and inhaling scents of Mediterranean herbs coming through open windows, awakens more memories. During the last 50 years, what once were vast olive tree farms and fields, and a source of wealth for the families, was transformed slowly into a bush-covered semi-wilderness. Where all people have gone? Views[251] After a two day travel and scarce sleep in narrow airplane seats, we finally stretch, enjoying sunshine on the ferry deck. As the ship ploughs through warm Adriatic, I glance nearby slopes of the archipelago islands. Once vibrant and covered in vineyards, now abandoned -- an unsightly eye rest for an occasional passing yacht of a wealthy businessman from the mainland. My sister in law and her husband to be were already rehearsing and waiting as family and friends were walking swiftly through narrow pathways, up the slopes, endless corridors, picturesque frontyards towards the old church on the top of the hill.
