Finally arrived! Gentle song of the sea birds fulfil the image of a perfect afternoon; embraced in crisp, salty air, Sumartin glows like a city vista painting of a Renaissance master; everything is there as it should be, proportioned as best of memories: both nearness of sea and distance of mountains, generation houses, narrow pathways, stone walls and docks, and even that puffy, little cloud above utters, "Welcome back".

Driving though winding, narrow roads of the island and inhaling scents of Mediterranean herbs coming through open windows, awakens more memories. During the last 50 years, what once were vast olive tree farms and fields, and a source of wealth for families, was transformed slowly into a bush-covered semi-wilderness. Where all people have gone?

A wedding day has come! My sister in law and her husband to be were already rehearsing and waiting as family and friends were walking swiftly through narrow pathways, up the slopes, endless corridors, picturesque frontyards towards the old church on the top of the hill. Typically and beautifully Mediterranean.
