My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

India | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

I discovered photography using a point and shoot on holiday in London. Others exclaimed, ‘What a great photograph!’ - I was incredulous as to why.
Without realising, I had considered framing and composition. And that was it - I bought a digital camera with manual capabilities and haven’t looked back.
I love photography. We are faced with the challenge of communicating an idea or a story within an image without the aid of words or video. Whilst we may be manipulating the viewer through our edit (despite possible use of photoshop), via selection process, various uses of technique (cropping) and deliberately in what we choose to photograph and include; photography is taken as truth. It is an incredibly powerful medium. Storytelling and a good eye surpass anything technology provides the everyday person. There’s no such thing as the 'perfect shot', but I will constantly strive to learn and better myself. I am passionate, adventurous and incredibly motivated. I know I would benefit from a mentor, making the most of every moment and would truly thrive if given the opportunity.
