For such a tiny place, Mindo gets a very big spot on the map of Ecuador as it is located up in the clouds and is the home for many animals as well as the location for a good cascade of water which has been adapted to allow people to swim, slide, bomb and picnic in the water.
Mindo also has a huge selection of restaurants to feed the locals who turn up to take advantage of the countryside with many fooderies having a slaughtered pig hanging in the doorway and hundreds of people, seemingly, tucking into fritatas with bread, beans and sweetcorn.
Mindo also has a few orchid farms which are impressive, housing over 200 varieties of orchids, large to very small whilst outside Mindo there is a lovely butterfly farm which is running a breeding programme and whose flowers also have the advantage of attracting hummingbirds who hover beautifully all over.
