first trip by myself: a high-school exchange for 6 weeks. my first encounter with a foreign language (the move from malaysia to australia was when i was too young to consciously recognise the concept of 'foreign'; cantonese and english were just the same language to me since i didn't have to think to understand either), driving on the other side of the road, celebrating christmas for the first time in my life... definitely the beginning of my wondering what else was out there.
