ABOUT ME

I am a very friendly, outgoing person which generally enjoys all the beauty life has to offer. I try to stay in tune with myself, both physical and mental with an end result of becoming a well-rounded individual. I consider myself driven with a strong ambitious need to succeed. I am a free spirited person who enjoys traveling, fine dining, glamour and luxury.  Additionally however, I am even more inspired by and identify with simple pleasures, stemming from a firm spiritual foundation.

ABOUT MY BACKGROUND

I have never had a formal instruction in photography, I have attended some workshops in different countries but I have never been attended a photography school as such. My background is in business and marketing. I was awarded with an excellence scholarship for higher education in my country Colombia so I took a Six-year undergraduate program in international business with a major in Marketing and specializations in brand management, logistics management and Human resources management. I have 5 years’ experience on academic position as teacher, researcher and administrative assistant and 3 years’ experience in administrative/marketing positions as program director and visual marketer. I speak Spanish, English, French and Thai.

This year I permanently moved to Thailand therefore i am studying Thai language and I am also setting up a Jewelry business with some friends. Our target group initially is France and Asia but in the not distant future exploring options in South America and Spain. I try to maintain a busy lifestyle and I accomplish that in many ways. I work out every day at the gym, I follow some tv series, I read a lot and try to keep myself updated about marketing trends, branding and social media. Lately I have been taking some courses in fashion and graphic design because I believe I had to learn the basic about shapes, lines, curves, colors, patterns etc.

PHOTOGRAPHY APPROACH

My first approach with photography was being a model for a local agency; Even though I was reluctant I easily get extra cash to support my student expenses so I did it for some time. At this time i believed a good picture was a portrait that features a model that looks good and helps selling certain products or promotes him/herself. With social media and the "celebrities wanna be" this idea has speeded and many people aim the photography career in their pursue for recognition and fame.

As I got to know more photographers I noticed that many of them tried to be very “fashion forward and creative” ending up with bad quality replicates of famous photographer’s work such as David Lachapelle and Steven Klein. This so called fashion photographers made me wonder about the boundaries between beauty and ugliness, between glamour and repulsiveness. I know the fact that commercial photography aims to get audience attention and brand recognition but sometimes the concept and real objectives of the shooting is lost in the way. Many images that catch the eye but not in a good way.

I have knowledge of image edition and manipulation, but very few knowledge of capturing, composition and lighting. I certainly believe that graphic design is mixing with digital photography and retouching is expected and demanded. In my photography I spend more time in Photoshop than in the field.  Sometimes I take bad pictures (bad lighting and composition) but I know I can edit them so i don’t do my best when it comes to capturing. As “Purist” photographers argue, once the photography is manipulated it does not depict the subject realistically and objectively. This scholarship would be the perfect opportunity for learning the real profession in practice with an very talented photographer in an amazing location.
