The Heart of Midlothian! How epic-sounding eh? This mosaic marked where the prison used to stand and public executions took place. It was and still is common these days to see people spitting on the heart, as a sign of disdain for the former prison and also because it's considered good luck. Not good luck for the chap who gets down on bended knee to propose to his true love only to get spit and phlegm on his trousers. Haha silly romantic chap.

St Giles, halfway between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace, it's the mother church of Presbytarianism. It's where God lives when he's in town. Very noisy neighborhood though, so many tourists wandering around, if I was him I'd double-glaze my stained-glass windows.

See that tall crooked building in the middle? It's the oldest building in Edinburgh. Used to be the rich would live at the bottom, and the poorer families would live higher up. It's the reverse nowadays, but the reason behind it used to be that if there was a fire, and there was always something burning back then, the rich could get out easier while the poor people would have to jump. They would of course aim to land on a rich person to break their fall. One of the benifits of living up in the higher floors was that you had fantastic views of the poor pepoles bedrooms opposite your house, and you could throw your poo onto peoples hats in the street.
