My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

The Chaskis (porters) carry provisions and tents for trekkers on the Inca Trail to the lost city of Machu Picchu in the Peruvian Andes. The small stature of these men belies their strength – they carry loads of over 30kg and climb nimbly up and down the mountain sides at high altitude. They are the descendants of highly trained runners (also called Chaskis) who used the extensive network of roads built by the Inca to deliver messages throughout the vast empire
