Alarm set for 3.00am with taxi expected at 3.45am. The driver was having a slow night so he rocks up at 3.30am. Just as well we are ready. Got to airport and as I had got our boarding passes we bypassed the other people waiting and went through the bag drop section. We find out that the flight is delayed by 30 min so sit at the airport just watching people. Eventually gate opens and we go through and Kevin experienced his first body scan. Picked up some duty free grog. Tanqueray Gin for me and Southern Comfort for Kevin. Allowance now 2 bottles each. Kevin says he wont be able to drink 2 bottles but I pointed out we are going for 90 days so I am sure he can give it a nudge. Flight ends up being 1 ½ hours late leaving. We had ordered low calorie meal for trip and breakfast was ok but lunch was fish so neither of us ate it. Landed at Hong Kong airport and made our way to our gate. Still had plenty of time until time to leave so again just sat and waited. This flight also ended up being 1 ½ hours late leaving. Again low cal meal that was fish, so again we didn’t eat it. Arrived at Hanoi airport which is a nice big new facility. Our driver was waiting and we made our way to the old quarter and our hotel, Paradise Boutique Hotel in Hang Bac Street. We were upgraded to a Superior room at the front of the hotel with a balcony. WOW. Settled into our room and the time is now 11.00pm local time which is 1.30am SA time so we were exhausted and fell to sleep quickly.
