Day 156 26th September 2014 Friday. Overnight the 12V system went haywire. Lights flicking on off and a funny noise from under the fridge. Appears the battery charger is not working and therefore the batteries have not been charging from 240 V and therefore I have been relying on solar and on overcast days they have not charged enough. This explains why I had been having concerns when free camping. I rang Stuart at Camerons and he tried to talk me through checking the charger but I was not able to fully unplug the unit as I had to lay on the flow and wriggle into a cupboard and this just wasn’t a pretty sight. Will need to be mindful about batteries for rest of trip. Also found when packing up that the water tanks had filled as a valve was left slightly open. Bugga, I now have an additional 95lt of water I don’t need. Left Streaky at 9.50 and headed to Pt Augusta. Stopped at Kimba for lunch at 1.00m and arrived at Kath McCreanor’s around 3.30pm. She has a nice paved area at the front of her house where she parks her van but she has moved it to friends to allow me to use the space. Took a little while to get the van level as I had to use ramps and with one person I was in and out of the car for ages to get it right. Headed into town to the supermarket and grog shop. Kath and I then headed to the Flinders Hotel for a few drinks with some of her mates. Got home after 8.30 and watched a little TV and chatted about travelling. Kath has now bought a Jeep Limited and I must say it’s a lovely car.
