Got up just after 5am to get ready for our bus. Left at 6am and got the skytrain from Surasak changing at Siam to Mo Chit. From there got a taxi (Dan persuaded him to use the meter) to the bus station. Arrived at the bus station at 7.30am for our bus at 9 so plenty of time to book in and then chill. Went to the 7eleven store (they are every few hundred metres in Bangkok) to get supplies for the journey. The bus left just after 9am and they provided us with a canned expresso, carrot and fruit juice and a little Indian flavoured cake for our snack. They also provided a bottle of water each. The road out of Bangkok has many dips and it was a bit of a rollercoaster ride. There were 2 couples sat in front of us, one from Germany and one from Manchester and they were very friendly and were talking about the scams at the border- so we listened to that for a bit incase we heard anything we hadn't already. We stopped for a 10min loo break at a services with a 7eleven store and a Chester's Chicken! I read my book and napped. Later he gave us lunch- s ready meal of rice, egg and meat/fish in a plastic container. They were handed out at random and no veggie options so the veggies weren't very happy. Not long after we got to the border and it was time to get out and do the necessary admin. 1st we had to go through the leaving Thailand border and give in or departure cards and have our passports stamped. Next we had to fill in our application for our Cambodian visa on arrival and our arrival card. This was a simple application form and needed a passport photo to be attached. The visa was $30 each...and they tried the scam of getting more money from us in Baht too for an 'application fee' (bribe). As we had read online we said no it says just there it is $30 and calmly insisted. He made us wait to the side for a few minutes and then his colleague came over and did our visas no problem without the bribe. Next up we got our passports stamped at the arrival desk. When we reached our destinating there was a free tuk tuk to our hostel.
We had booked 1 night in a private room at the Advisor Angkor Villa. When we got there we were in room 105 and it was horrible. Mildew up the walls, smelly, dirty and falling apart! We only stayed that one night and booked somewhere else.
We went for dinner at a little restaurant with seating outside it (no. 77). I had noodle soup and Dan had rice and beef.
