The Great Australian Bite Next stop for a bite ... Chengdu, China!

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos

These photos taken in China’s Gui Lin province, it is known for misty mountains and never ending rivers. A local phrase boasts that “Gui Lin’s mountains and waters are the best under the sky”. Locals live survive on these calm rivers and abundance of fish, but small river boats full of tourists have disturbed the environment. Fishermen have found it increasingly difficult to fish and make a living. The younger generations have left for the wealth of big cities; as a result Gui Lin is losing an industry and its cultural heritage. In these photos I tried to capture the bigger environment and then remnants of the fishing industry. If I could return to Gui Lin I would love to get closer to the locals.
