Aspendos and Perge

Perge

Perge

CONNIE SWEARS WE STAYED IN ANTALYLA in ’07 — even has journal entries to prove it — but I am drawing a blank.  Ditto the theater at Aspendos, very much "off, OFF, OFF Broadway" yet one of the best preserved in the Roman Empire.  I guess I was just “Romaned-out” by that time.  The aqueduct, however, sparked something in my feeble mind.

But I did remember Perge today; it’s just too big and glorious to forget — even bigger now that ongoing excavations have restored another entire colonnaded street, complete with a water supply and shop stalls.  The history of Perge goes from the 5th Century BC through the Golden Age of Rome ... and golden it must have been.

Antalya is — always was, I guess — a good base for exploring the area and Bypegasus Apartments make a wonderful headquarters.  We had a fully furnished apartment with a kitchen and washing machine just a couple of blocks off the sparkling Med.  Write it down so you don’t forget.
