Today we drove up to Caerphilly Castle just to the North of Cardiff. It is the best preserved example of a concentric castle, with inner and outer walls. It was built to defend the English against the last Welsh Prince of Wales. The moats and castle walls are still intact, but the drawbridges and portcullis are not there anymore.
We had lunch at the local pub and took a walk around the Caerphilly Commons before heading back to Cardiff. Before returning to the apartment, we took a drive further out to the other side of Cardiff, beyond Penarth, to the town of Barry. A fairly industrial town, but with a great beachfront area...see photos.
Thanks for all the comments on the blog, everyone. We love them. The boys have especially liked the messages from Gracie and Erin.
