Today we went to Swansea to have lunch at David Boucher's house. David is involved with Ian's research project and is Professor of Politics at Cardiff. Also invited to lunch was Neville Masterman who taught history for many years at the University at Swansea. He is the son of Charles Masterman who was a prominant MP in the early twentieth century, famous for (among other things) bringing in the National Insurance Bill and author of the best selling The Condition of England (1909). Neville is 94 now, but sharp as a tack, and full of amusing literary and political anecdotes.
The boys were on their best behaviour, though they did spend part of the afternoon watching a DVD on the laptop. They did a great job of joining in the conversation over lunch and their table manners were impeccable. After lunch we took a walk up to a castle near David's house (it seems there's one around every corner). Then we walked along the esplanade and took in the views of Swansea Bay.
