Yemen is a country of tribal and traditional views and it is ranked last in the Global Gender Gap Index, an index measuring equality for women when it comes to economics, education, politics and health. However, some progress has been made in support of women’s rights with the internationally brokered political transition.

Yemen has one of the world’s youngest age structures with three-quarters of its 21 million inhabitants under the age of 30, and 46 per cent under age 15. The youth were central in sparking and mobilizing the revolution in 2011 and continues to be an important element to the rebuilding of Yemen.
