Before heading back to Paris on the train I went to Sainte Madeleine church. It was closed when I got there yesterday on my walking tour. It wasn't meant to be closed according to the guide but I have found that they're quite random with their opening and closing times in Troyes. Anyway, it was worth the effort to go back there. Very beautiful and a lovely way to finish my short trip to Troyes.
Arrived back in Paris and made it to our motel alive - crazy French taxi driver was worse than the crazy ones in Melbourne! Lizzy's last night with us which is a little bit sad. We went to Galeries Lafayette. Oh my goodness - what an incredible department store! Full of separate shops really. Each little shop was a well-known (and very expensive) brand or designer. They all had a security guard manning the entrance. Some had two security guards and I'm sure those shops sold stuff well outside my budget. There was a line of people waiting to get into Chanel. I also went up to their rooftop terrace for the superb views of Paris including the Eiffel Tower which was just gorgeous at sunset.
We ate at a place called Art Bistro on the way back to our motel. I was craving some vegetables by this time so only had the plate of steamed vegetables for my main meal but followed that with profiteroles for dessert. A huge serving of caramel ice cream filled profiteroles with hot chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Luckily Lindee and Liz were only too happy to help me eat it because there's no way I could have eaten it all on my own.
