Finally at about 2pm i got on the road towards Denali with an escort of some fantastic people i had met the night before. A special ommellete was cooked for me by my kind hosts and after packing the bike up dropped it straight off the stand, great start. We headed to Talkeetna for lunch and i decided i would stay in the night. Talkeetna is the staging point for climbers testing themselves on Denali. Its a pretty town with log huts and lodges bars and of course an assortment of cheap souvenir shops.

An early start, in glorious sunshine and amazing views of Denali with a blue sky as a background. A leisurely ride along the Parks Highway with not a care in the world. Then the bike just died i couldnt believe it i had run out of petrol. A fuel line had come of and my foot was soaking in Petrol. I switched to reserve and was told that the next stop was about 100kms away. A little bit of panic struck in as i nursed the bike to a car which had also run out of petrol. A kind Irishman named Patrick bought fuel for the car and followed me all the way to the next fuel stop, more Alaskan Kindness. 112kms on 2 litres of fuel at 60kms per hour not bad going. An eventful day all in all with a near collision with a moose as it bounded over a guard rail into my path, the brakes worked well, moose are huge as big as horse with not very good road sense. Once i got to the North side of Denali the weather turned a little nasty so i kept going and arrived in Fairbanks after 8. Still cant get used to the light or lack of darkness. Where to next North or South will decide later today.

Hi Tony

Great fun following your adventure. Take care and please throw out the petrol sodden socks!! Trust me you will never get the petrol smell out and one less item to weigh you down.

Please do not respond to my email as just touching base so that even though you may be 1000's of miles away, you know you are in our thoughts. Love Elaine

What's an adventure without some heart-stopping moments.....glad it worked out ok though.

Moose, unpredictable weather, lack of darkness (I can't even begin to imagine what this must be like).....all too good Tony, too good.

Safe journey

Gary
