Cascais - Portugal August 14th - 17th
We didn’t want to stay in the city of Lisbon so we ventured on down the coast to a small town called Cascais. It is a sea side town, a little touristy but fun. The ocean was still very cool but it was hot so we ventured in but only for a few minutes. Our place is very close to the beach so we would go back and forth whenever we got hot. We walked the harbour and swam at a few small beaches. In the morning we would get a bus to a fort town called Sintra to see a traditional fort and it’s city. We would walk up to the main town from the bus stop and there was a free home (castle) that we visited said to be the best preserved home in Portugal. We could see the large palace on the top of the hill in the distance and although it was a very steep and windy road to the top we decided to walk. At the top stood a large Castle like you would see in a fairly tail with the towers and drawbridge. We walked around the entire castle in and out of every room. You had a great view of the hole area. You could see why they would build it there as it would be very easy to defend. We were headed back down and decided to take the bus as it was getting late and was still very hot. Back in the town we walked through the shops and then waited for our bus back to Cascais. The next day we went to town (Lisbon) to see the art gallery a few other forts and get the traditional custard tarts. We jumped off the train a few stops early on the way back so we could walk the waterfront back to Cascais. Last night would be spent at the beach and planning our next journey.
