Porto - Portugal August 6th - 9th

On the train an off right on time J  we were happy we left on time as we only had 8 minutes between one of our transfers and would be running for sure.  Well that was the end of the good luck that day.  A few stops in we were boarded by Boarder control officers and they held the train for 1 hour..  There goes our hopes of making the transfer…. This would now leave us without a room for the night and we wouldn’t arrive until 10:30pm into Vigo.  Great    We arrived and found as expected no trains until 8:00am the next morning..  We walked around the town of Vigo asking at all the hostels if they had room   but they are all booked L  We eventually found a hotel with a room $90 later we were resting our heads in a very nice room compared to our usual accommodations.  Live and learn  never leave less that an hour between train transfers..   The next morning we did make it to Porto and after a quick journey on the metro we were at our home for the next few days.  So what is the first thing to do when you arrive in a Mediterranean paradise  lets go to IKEA J  We’ll it was dinner time for us and you can’t get food until 7:00pm so we figured it would be open.  Swedish meatballs, and the best pork or lamb leg I have ever had.  In the morning there were fires all over the place so the city was quite smokey.  We were told they have very bad fire seasons similar to us. Very dry and hot.  We headed to the ocean for a dip as it was 36 deg, smoky and HOT!!!   Funny no one in the water when we got down there and we soon found out why, it was 15 deg  brrrr.   Holy did manage to get in but I just waited around to cool off,  to cold for me!  We hung out at the beach until dinner and then headed back up to the hotel.  The next two days would be spent on the internet planning the last two weeks of our time over seas making sure we had ample time between trains LOL..  And exploring the downtown core (churches and historic buildings) We strolled the waterfront on our last day out to the end of the harbour pier and watched all the local fishermen while filling our faces with ice-cream.
