Stories of South East Asia

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My name is Tim Gollan and I am 19 years old. I study law and engineering at the University of Sydney because I like mathematics and the idea of universal justice. This is not what I want to do with my life. It seems like a simple admission, but it is not one that I have come to lightly. The process has been much more organic than that.

It only took a couple of months of tertiary study to realise that my life was missing a genuine creative outlet. I had decided to dive straight out of school into university, opting not to take a gap year. It was this decision which I began to regret genuinely as I soon started to see snapshots from my friends in amazing places. The travel bug had bitten and gave me a desire to learn how to capture the amazing stories the world had to offer when I would get a chance to explore it. That is where my new found love of photography began.

It was around a year before I made it overseas and into the heart of South East Asia, a place I utterly fell in love with. I found my camera skills improving and with that I was able to capture more culture and emotion than I thought possible.

Since that trip all I have done is dream about the next one.
