After arriving in Argentina 2 days ago we were stunned at the difference in the socio economic level – this area has so much more money than Bolivia and this is the poor area of Argentina. Jess had a bit of culture shock because suddenly cars were younger than 20 years old, there are new cars, and toy stores which you don’t get in Bolivia because noone can afford toys. Salta is lovely, it’s very European just without the pricetag, the only issue for us down here has been the different accent. They speak Spain Spanish here where our last 3 countries all speak latin Spanish. The big diference is the LL is pronounced here as a J but we speak it as a Y. made for some confusing times in restaurants.
We had our first proper Argentinian steak tonight and did it weel. After waiting until 8pm for the restaurants to open (people start eating here at 10pm but usually 12pm blah) we went and had our first Paradilla – basically 5kgs of assorted meats brought to our table on a small BBQ. It was amazing and so delicious. We haven’t had decent meat in months so this was a real treat and all for $3US. The waiter seemed bothered that we left so much meat but we couldn’t fit another bit in. No salad solo meat. Yum
