Wine and beer

Naviti Resort

Wednesday 7 April 2010

You may recall from the last post that Leigh spotted an open bar, and as we had an indeterminable wait for our room to become available, it seemed logical that the bar should become our 'waiting room'

This was the start of a period that left a couple of the travellers with somewhat of a memory lapse later in the day.

After having been awake for some 24 hours by then, a couple of gin and tonics to soothe the jangled and weary nerves seemed a really good idea - and it was. These were followed by a couple of Fiji Bitters and suddenly the rooms were available.

Needless to say, we collapsed for a couple of hours but set the alarms to ensure that we didn't sleep too long as the pool bar beckoned just outside our window, some 40 metres away.

We arose with the alarm and changed into the swimmers and headed to the pool. This is where the whole day started to unravel.

The package that we took was an all inclusive one - accommodation, meals and drinks. The drinks were restricted to beer, house wines and local spirits. This did not deter the girls from attempting to extract the maximum value from the package on the first day. Leigh attempted to total the number of times he went to the bar to obtain 2 glasses of white for the ladies and he ultimately calculated that they managed around two bottles each. I personally thought it may have been more.

After spending several hours at the pool, we decided that it was time to make our way (or far more descriptively, crawl) to our rooms for a shower prior to dinner.

What had started the day as four participants shrank to three - Michelle decided that sleep beckoned more than a tasty meal, although whether it was the lack of sleep or the liquid refreshments taken during the afternoon that was the reason for this was not perfectly clear.

Either way it didn't matter.

The remaining three had dinner and decided that perhaps bed was not a bad idea. Family members will be shocked to hear that Goog was in bed and asleep by 9pm......getting ready for a new day tomorrow.
