Monday 8/30
Today was crazy. In the morning we woke up early like usual and I took my malaria pills like normal and as we were walking to breakfast I felt a little sick and basically thought nothing of it, that I should just eat some breakfast and I would be fine. But when we got to the cafeteria the smells just did not sit right in my stomach and I honestly really just felt horrible. After we left and I had only eaten a few bites of food I took only 5 steps out of the cafeteria when I just got sick all over the road. Thanks malaria pills… After that I just chilled for a while because that was awful. Thankfully though China sells Gatorade and crackers so I felt better pretty quick.
Later in the day, after I was feeling better, we took yet another trip to the beach to have a little party with some new Chinese friends that our classmate Sean had met. I don’t know why, but he attracts all the girls here, its really quite impressive. We brought a ton of beer, a bottle of baijiu, some vodka from the states and some fancy grapefruit and peach flavored alcohol. We were ready to party. Little did we know that the baijiu would be horrendous!! We drank it non-the-less. We had a great time talking to the Chinese girls and their friend, a very awkward boy, who had an extremely long thumb nail. When we asked him why he had it, he claimed it was good for pealing oranges. (Seriously??) I have also heard that guys grow them out here so they can pick their ears, sometimes the Chinese can be very strange. Normally in the states men who have one long fingernail are classified as coke heads, but obviously the cultural differences are great.
Anyways we stayed at the beach all day and left around 8pm to find a bar to chill at, instead we ended up crashing a family restaurant and embarrassed ourselves greatly. The phrase of the night ended up being, “fuck it we’re in China” because we figured it would be a long long time before we were able to come back to China, so we might as well live it up!!

Kate-I'm enjoying the blog immensely. I'm so glad you are getting out, experiencing the people and the food with such gusto!
Take care,
