Pictures and Stories from our Time in Thailand

One Year Down!

THAILAND | Tuesday, 13 May 2008 | Views [245]

Well, May the 5th saw our 1st anniversary here in Thailand. It snuck up on us and we were quietly shocked. How quickly the first year has passed, and what a year it was!

We spent a big chunk of April in Australia, which for me was the first trip home sicne we moved up here. It was great to be home and see everyone. Sorry for those I didnt catch. It was a hectic few weeks, and I know next time to take it a little more slowly and maybe a few extra days!

I jetted straight from Australia to the US for a HUGE confrence for work in Kentucky. It was the biggest event I have been involved with and it was pretty amazing to see just how big and well respected the company is in the feed industry. It wasnt all work, Alltech likes to party and we had a Kentucky boot scootting night which was great fun. Everyone dressed in checked shirts and cowboy hats, and boots. With all the seriousness of the conference its good to have night of fun!

By the time I got back in Bangkok, it had been almost a month since I had been here and it was great to get back. I did a short two days of work and then we had a 5 day weekend!

Mike and I did the only reasonable thing and jetted off to the beach! We flew to Phuket and then drove an house North to a beach called Khao Lak. It was really heavily hit by the tsunami a few years ago and the place was wiped out. They are still re-building quite a bit of it, but there are some lovely places to stay and things are mostly back to normal.

Mike made me stay in this budget bungalow thing for the first two nights which was ok. No hot water, no air con, the stinkiest pillows on earth and a few creepy crawlies. But the beach was amazing. We pretty much had the little cove ourselves. Its a beautiful spot.

Scary story - we had arranged to go snorkelling on Friday. A day trip to the Similan Islands for a snorkel with turtles and fish. Friday morning the weather was not too nice. A bit overcast and a little rain. We headed down to check if the snorkelling trip was still on - the company still wanted to take us out. We were not keen and the resort owner said `no, wait and see tomorrow` so we did. The cyclone hit Burma on Friday/Saturday. When we got back to Bangkok, I was reading the newspaper and I read that 25 tourists had to be rescued off the very island we were heading to on Friday by the Thai navy! So lucky.

Needless to say Saturday was not much better, But it only rained a little and the sun came out both days for a few hours and we were not going to let a bit of wind ruin our weekend. The last night Mike and I checked into a great resort (more my style) for a bit of pool lazing, cocktail sipping and clean comfort - heaven! So overall Khao Lak is great. We didnt see it at its best because of the weather, it made the water quite brown from the sand, but it can only get better. Definately recomended!

We are back into the swing of things at work. Mike is off to China this weekend (another long weekend again, thanks to Buddha), I have some travel coming up inside Thailand. Heading out to rural parts to give some presentations. We have no more holidays coming up, nor visitors planned in the near future so we will just hang out for a bit, which are both looking forward to!

We have just organised Mum and Rick to come up at Christmas time, and Dad for October - which by the way will be the first of my family to visit - 1 year people.

Mike turns the big 30 in October and we have planned a 4 day getaway in Malaysia. About 35 odd people are coming up from Australia, Thailand and maybe further afield! Dad and Mike`s mum Mary will be joining us and a few babies so its a mixed crowd and should be great fun.

Well...thats about it. We are both still loving it and having a great time. As mentioned low on visitors so anyone feel free to come on up!

Hope your all great! Drop us a message if you get a chance!

Tara x
