Weekends away and other stuff!

Hi,

I am still here. Now that we have been here a while (9 months!) life has pretty much become normal and exciting stuff doesnt seem to happen quite as often!

But still, everything is going great. Home, work, maid - all going smoothly.

We just had the most amazing weekend ever! Mike and I were keen to get out of the city and head to the beach for the weekend. I had found a nice, affordable place on the internet but left it too late to book. Everything was booked out for the Chinese New Year holidays here. So Friday afternoon I had pretty much faced up to us not going and having to make it the next weekend. Mike was DESPERATE to sit on the beach so he found and booked a resort at 5pm Friday afternoon! It was so nice. Completely too much that I was thinking you need to spend for a `few days away` but it was heaven!

The resort was called X2 (pronounced cross-too) was so fancy. It opened in Dec 07 and is on a section of beach that has nothing else on it pretty much. No houses, no resorts. Its in the middle of nowhere (which explains the `nothingness`) and there is nothing to do or see apart from hang around the resort. We had a little villa which came with its own PRIVATE POOL!!! Yep. It had all funky decor, all minimilistic with no doors/windows! We didnt speak to anyone the entire weekend unless they worked at the resort. We spent our time lounging by the pool, beach, our pool, the bar! Just what we need to rejuvinate! Unfortunately the trek home was a little hard with really bad traffic - welcome back to Bangkok! Check it out at - http://www.x2resorts.com/kuiburi/gallery.aspx

My trip to Vietnam for work was good. I went to Ho Chi Minh City which is much under developed in comparison to Bangkok. It made Bangkok look normal. It was as you think of Asia - lots and lots of motorbikes not really following any road rules, the cars are uotnumbered and give way to motorbikes at all times. The food was great and I hope to get back there soon for a real look around the city.

I am off to India next week for work, which should be a real experience! I am heading to Bangalore where the factory is for the week. I am thinking I will be vegetarian whilst I am there - the meat is apperently quite dodgy and this is the time of year that bird flu is out in full force!

Mike had been travelling heaps to as well. He has just come back from China and Dubai and other places Im sure - I lose track!

We have started Thai class, which is fun but we suck at it! We try but finding time to do homework and practice is hard. The Thai`s expect us to speak English, so when we try to speak Thai, they look at us with blank faces! It gives us an activity anyway!

We have been doing a few `expat` events recently. We went to a masked ball which was a lot more fun that we thought it would be! Even had a dance! We have made some new friends here too which is keeping us busy.

August and Tim stopped in early Jan which was heaps of fun. Lots of eating and drinking. They are heading over to South America travelling and then moving to Ireland so might not see her for a while!

Mike and I have organised a trip home to visit everyone - well as many people as possible! I will arrive in Sydney on the 5th April. I have work in Melb/Brisbane from Monday the 7th to the 11th. I will get to Tassie on the 11th (just in time for Rick!) and Mike arrives on the 12th. We will hang out there till the 15th/16th and then back to Sydney for a few days. I will fly to the US for work on the 18th and Mike heads to Perth for a vist sometime around then! So if anyone wants anything `Thai` let me know now so I can start to collect for you all and bring it back with me.
So busy April planned and I cant wait to come home for a visit. I hope Mum had the roast planned (lamb thanks) and someone (or everyone) has a Boags chilled for my arrival! If someone can have a word to the man about making sure the weather is fine - I would appreciate it!
I am heading to China for work next month and I am heading right into the area where all those people were stranded because of the weather - lets hope it warms up as I am not ready for cold weather again so soon!

Well thats about all I can think of. Everything is fine. We have just one more planned visitor next month (Mel - woo hoo!!!!!) and thats it. There has been a lack of family visitors. Mikes side only actually - so get your bums into gear and come over - there is plently of room, a maid and I may even spoil you to a resort with a private pool.....whatelse do you need!
