The penetrating gaze of the stupa surveys all corners of the kathmandu valley.
The gold plated harmika on Swayambhu Stupa is painted with the eyes of Vairochana Buddha, as is customary for Nepali Stupas. Swayambhu Stupa has been the “source” of inspiration for many who aspire to learn the teachings of the Buddha, to emulate his life and values, or to apply his teachings to end suffering in our communities. In this sense, what this sacred space propagates to the world is priceless. The artisans gave their skills, techniques and made sure that a whole new generation gets to visit, be inspired to learn, and educate themselves about the life and teachings of the Buddha through the beautiful art and iconography of Swayambhu.
