Greetings from Nepal!
Born Buddhist with a
very unique Sagittarian trait, I am always looking "over the hill and far
away." Travel and exploration naturally appeals to me. Being a Sherpa girl
myself, lust for adventure and the outdoors, which I consider, is hereditary
gift. I consciously strive to obtain freedom by
engaging in philosophic or religious studies, or more directly through travel
and exploring the Great Outdoors. I am an amateur photographer with the
penchant in Travel and Buddhism. Maroon robe seems to intrigue me!
The million dolor question remains as of Why should I be
chosen for this scholarship? I believe Bhutan definitely is an epitome of all
that I believe in, Spiritual, Mystical and reservoir of rich and ancient
culture that awaits revelation. My audacity in applying for this scholarship is
an attempt in applying to be accepted as an amateur, I am asking that you take
a leap of faith with me to undertake this learning experience as a personal
odyssey of my personal development. My
special wish will be bestowed upon me in the guise of this Travel Photography
Scholarship as it'll grant me the opportunity to learn from the Professional
& satiate my wanderlust and enrich my photography skill from the renowned
photographer! Dreams come true, indeed for me as I haven't studied photography
& the Pentax Equipment worth $2000 that is beyond my financial
affordability will definitely propel me further into the Wide world of
Photography of the Great Outdoors, that I could only dream of!
I believe in The Great
Universe, if I am deserving enough of a chance of a lifetime to be under
tutelage of Jason Edwards and to have this Life enriching experience of
traveling to Bhutan to taste the culture
& the Nature, I would consider myself Goddamn Lucky! It’ll be an honour to
be granted this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in the guise of the scholarship
from the most revered exploration organisations in the world. It will ceratainly change my world and apart
from giving me the chance to get my foot in the door it can do wonders to open
up whole new level of prominence in the
Photography sphere.
A series of photos I’ve chosen here was taken on the full
moon of May the 27th,2010 which marks the triple anniversary of the
Buddha’s birth, death and enlightenment, and is an especially sacred time at
Swayambhu Stupa in Nepal. Apart from being The ultimate symbol of benevolence
amongst the Buddhist, it was listed as a UNESCO
World Heritage Site in 1979 A.D. Etymologically, two Sanskrit words
collate to form Swayambhu: Swyam meaning ‘self’, and Bhu meaning ‘emerged’.
Popular belief holds that the Swayambhu stupa emerged 2,500 years ago without
any human effort. Last renovated 100 years ago, the world heritage site was
unveiled to the public on the same day, after concluding 15th major
restoration.
The historic project, which was more a labor of love than
just a job for the almost hundred local master artisans from their respective
fields of expertise worked odd hours, using all traditional techniques, which
was a major affair lasting two whole years, starting in May 2008. Funding for
such a huge undertaking came from the Nyingma Meditation Center (TNMC), one
of America’s oldest Buddhist
Organisations.
I'd like to share tis quote with all the Travelers out there.
"A good photograph is one that communicates a fact,
touches the heart, leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it. It
is, in a word, effective."
