Let's go surfing? Ok!

So we've established that early mornings are not everyone's forte ... but it helps when you're having breakfast overlooking beautiful Bondi Beach! How can you go wrong with this view??

We started the day with a Big Breakfast at Trio Cafe.In Cuzzy's words: "A lot better than a ‘greasy spoon’ back home".Not to mention the funky way they serve coffees and hot chocolates:

Full of fuel it was off to our first surprise of the trip. Although walking into this shop maaay have given it away a tad ...

Dervs and Cuzzy were psyched! Cuzzy had said that he'd love to try surfing when we had the BBQ on Bondi on their arrival day.

Big Wave Dave was their instructor and he was fantastic. He reassured them that over 90% of his students stand during their first lesson with him. No problems. First of all though we wanted to get Dervs in Cuzzy in some typical beachwear - speedos (aka banana hammocks, aka budgie smugglers). Luckily they were wearing wetsuits so they only had to put the speedos on over that. Looking good guys! Promise!

Big Wave Dave took them through the finer points of surfing while they were on dry land. Dervs was stoked with his instructions: "I have been surfing many times in Ireland but it was great to get a lesson from a real Aussie, which in hindsight paid off, he had me popping up straight to my feet, there was no option to kneel up first with “Big Wave Dave” and before I knew it I was turning on the wave like a real pro…well I let you be the judge of that ..."

Cuzzy on the other hand initially had a little trouble: "Derv had surfed before so it wasn’t long before she was up surfing away whilst I was swallowing gallons of seawater. But I finally got up on the waves. Not looking quite ‘cool’ but up none the less."

Seems so easy on land ...

Then it's into the water ...

Cuzzy's off!

Dervs was standing in no time

Cuzzy wasn't far behind

Both loved the water temp, the ocean in Sydney is quite warm in winter, not far off the air temps. And definitely a lot warmer than back home!

So once they got the hang of it, Big Wave Dave took our surfers a little further out ...

I think they loved strutting their stuff on the beach just as much as surfing ...

Thoroughly exhausted and exhilarated, it was time to refuel with some lunch before hitting the markets.

Final words from Cuzzy: "This was my favourite event of the past few days and I definitely want to go surfing again."

Big thanks to Big Wave Dave and the Let's Go Surfing team!
