When we arrived at the train station, there was a taxi to take us to our accommodation. He had been organised by the host (though in hindsight and having now met the hosts, it's surprising that anyone was there to meet us!) and drove us the 4 or so km's to where we were staying. €10 for that distance! Anyway, he was helpful and we saw remnants of the snow they have been having, before the rain earlier in the week, melted it all away. He also dashed our hopes a bit when he said they weren't expecting any more snow til the New Year!
After settling in to our gorgeous budget hotel, we decided it was a good time to go cycling and get some supplies for Christmas Day. Unbeknown to us the ride was uphill on some very icy areas! Quite an interesting ride, especially as on our way back the night had descended on us - quite an adventure, but I'm happy to say, incident free!
We went out for our Christmas Dinner that night(Christmas Eve), because we had been advised that most places wouldn't be open on Christmas Day for a meal. It was really nice, albeit not so much of a Christmas meal as we know it. We had soup (Vege & barley) for starters, then I had Loin of Pork with Wild Mushroom sauce, and so did my sister Adele and bro-in-law Chris. Chris' sister Kirsten really went for the local food - Deer Goulash! She claimed it was really yummy!
This morning (Christmas Day) we woke up late (9am-ish), but in time for the buffet breakfast - delicious - with blue sky and sunshine. A little disappointing as we were hoping for snow. However, it was awesome to sit out on our balcony in the sun, with a glass of bubbles wrapped tightly in blankets!
This afternoon we were about to head out for a walk and suddenly there were little white flakes floating down outside!!! It was awesome! We headed out for the lake with barely any flakes and by the time we came home, everything was covered in snow!!! AND, as we walked home we were covered in snow! We took some wicked photos and are looking forward to taking many more in the morning - we had about 5 hours of snowing!!! Everything looks so gorgeous outside. It's so awesome. My bro-in-law has posted some photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/chris.adele/ChristmasInSlovenia?authkey=VyvV1hF5P7Y#
So feel free to check them out! We had so much fun and look forward to having some more tomorrow.
