My Scholarship entry - Seaweed farmers Nusa Lembongan

Indonesia | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos

I have dreamt of being a wildlife and travel photographer since I was 12 years old. I love the connection I get between myself and my subject. No matter whether it is a person, an animal or a scene, photography makes me take more notice of what is going on around me. I studied photography for two years after I left school. All my fellow students were always in the studio, with lights and makeup, and I was always out roaming the countryside for wildlife or waiting for the light to hit the hills through some storm clouds. They all went on to become wedding photographers but that was not me! I did not know how to sell my work apart from a few prints here and there and have never had the confidence to try and make a full time living from it. Eight years ago I opened a restaurant instead and my photography has always taken a back seat. I have just sold my restaurant and decided that it is finally time to try and do what I really want, making photography my life. But how to achieve what I really dream off? This scholarship would be a great chance for me to learn from someone who is doing exactly what I dreamt of doing for 20 years.
