    This man is taking ropes of seaweed back to the sea to be replanted and allowed to grow more. His wife sits in their little shed sorting the seaweed and retying the ropes. Despite their poverty the people were very happy and were proud of how their children had gone to schools on mainland Bali and made a life for themselves off the island. by: stephenbradley Views[427] An older woman bails the water from her boat before going back out to harvest. There are almost no young people working in the seaweed farms anymore. They prefer to try to make easier money from the tourists. We watched many young men sit and watch as small elderly women struggle with heavy work. by: stephenbradley Views[487] Women strip the seaweed from the ropes it is crown on and then carry it in large heavy baskets to the sorting sheds. Most of it will be dried in the sun. The smaller pieces will be tied back onto the ropes with pieces of plastic bag to be returned to the sea to grow more. by: stephenbradley Views[428] A local man cleans and area of sand for new ropes of seaweed to be tied, in the shallow clear waters between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. by: stephenbradley Views[396] A woman carries seaweed from the main farming area on Nusa Lembongan.The seaweed is farmed to be sold to huge wealthy cosmetic companies, yet the farmers are very poor and live in basic shelters. Only two kilometers away on the other side of the island thousands of tourists sun themselves in fancy resorts.
