A local man cleans and area of sand for new ropes of seaweed to be tied, in the shallow clear waters between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan.

A woman carries seaweed from the main farming area on Nusa Lembongan.The seaweed is farmed to be sold to huge wealthy cosmetic companies, yet the farmers are very poor and live in basic shelters. Only two kilometers away on the other side of the island thousands of tourists sun themselves in fancy resorts. They are possibly using the expensive products the seaweed is farmed for, oblivious to were it comes from.

Women strip the seaweed from the ropes it is crown on and then carry it in large heavy baskets to the sorting sheds. Most of it will be dried in the sun. The smaller pieces will be tied back onto the ropes with pieces of plastic bag to be returned to the sea to grow more.
