After a very long journey indeed I finally made it to Christchurch and still fighting the 12 hour jetlag... You get creative on how you spend your time when you wake up at 2:30 in the morning... why not do your laundry? Still can't believe I am actually on the other side of the world. It ahsn't quite sunk in yet..
I was picked up at the airport by Katrina who was on exchange at my house about 14 years ago and we hadn't seen each other since. I am staying at her flat in the centre of Christchurch just opposite a lovely park and only 20 min walk into the actual centre.. Thanks so much for putting me up Katrina! It is indeed pure luxury to have a comfy bed the first two nights before getting into the Hostel routine...
I was surprised about how small Christchurch is you can easily reach everything by foot and there simply is something very relaxing and calm about this city.. I just set at the cathedral square enjoying the sunny weather (yes, it is T-shirt weather), treating myself to a Starbucks (hard to skip old habits) and just relaxing... Thought to myself how weired not actually having to do anything for a change.
Ha one notable thing is : There are germans everywhere... no escape from them. had a couple next to me on the flight from sydney to Chrustchurch and just "heard" plenty of them walking past...
I am leaving tomorrow and already have no idea how to see and do all the things .. soooo much I want to see. A month does simply not seem enough.
When leaving from London Catherine gave me a little card with the following lines
face your fears, follow your dreams, never regret the past and always look forward the future..
she couldn't have been any more spot on.. perfect motto for the next 4 and a half months ahead.
