My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Cambodia | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 4 photos
Living in Cambodia for the past year has been a life changing experience for me. It has allow me to cross different land borders and experience those long hours on the road. As many know, Cambodia is famous for Angkor Wat but to me its more than that. Khmer (Cambodia) children totally steals my heart. They make me realised that while I may be richer in other ways, they are the ones who are truly rich in life. Even though they are probably still too young to know about poverty and what might be lacking in terms of standard of living, it does not matter because this is their time and they know how to truly embrace it. Sometimes I feel we've got a lot to learn from children. To me travelling goes hand in hand with photography. Changes are always happening and my love for photography comes from simply capturing that moment that brings me back to that particular place, particular moment. One often thinks that he/she leaves footprints but I believe it’s also the country, its people and culture leaving their impressions in me. With photography, I hope that I will be able to showcase the authenticity and beauty of a country and its people, not just the usual touristy backpacker scene and that it will allow me to tell their story through my experiences and interactions with them. What drives me to take a better shot is my pursuit to capture the essence, mood and raw beauty of a place and/or its people. So i hope with this travel scholarship, it will allow me the learning platform to learn more about travel photography, travel writing and the dedication and passion that is needed to kick start a career in this industry.
