Cuenca and Guayaquil

ECUADOR | Friday, 13 September 2013 | Views [302]

Cuenca is a nice, wealthy, typical colonial town which could be in any European city.  It is set on an old Inca city, but little has been saved.  Damian was very annoyed that they do not serve beer on a Sunday here, so our designated night out with a lie-in the next day was a little disappointing for him!  We went to see Ingapirca, the Inca Ruins on the outskirts, but the best bit (and worst) was the bus journey to Guayaquil, as we thundered down the Andes to the coast.  I felt horifically sick within 2 hours of the 6hr journey, and could barely stay in the seat for the swaying of the bus.  It is utterly amazing to be in the mountains one minute, then suddenly stop and it be completely flat all the way to the sea.

Guayaquil is not as scary as people, and the book, describe.  The University area was actually quite nice, but this was just a stop-over to get to Galapagos...
