    Once penned, each foal is restrained for examination. If they have white hoof markings or hairs, then they are not classified as purebred by the Exmoor Pony Society members on site. They are therefore valueless, and if they can not be adopted by the rescue centre, will be sent to the hunt kennels for meat. What they are trying to preserve with this practice, is the prehistoric appearence of the ancient breed. by: sophiebolesworth Views[584] Once trapped on the farm, the mothers and foals are corralled into pens and sorted. The foals are separated from their mothers to be checked, counted, branded, micro chipped and mostly sold. This event holds no financial reward for the farmers who practice it, what is maintained by these enthusiasts, is a small slice of prehistoric Britain. by: sophiebolesworth Views[733] David Wallace and his son search through the fog for their herd. They comb the 10 square mile stretch on horseback, quadbike and on foot until they find and can push the wild ponies towards their farm. by: sophiebolesworth Views[552] The herds on Exmoor roam over the 300 square mile National Park conservation grazing. The importance of what the people in the local communities are trying to preserve is rarely herd of outside of the area. This particular herd has been overseen by the Wallace family, for a Century. Many breed experts believe these animals bare the closest possible resemblance to the primitive wild horse, first recorded in the UK in 70,000 BC. This project explores the communities who live in this isolated corner of Britain, and the lengths they go to maintain the pure-breeding of these endangered wild animals.
