So, we've been in Uganda for a week now and finished our first week at work. Still living out of suitcases and just moved into our 5th hotel room. Feeling very nomadic! Just about to move again tomorrow and are going to be staying in the Zoo!

The CEO of CTPH is on the board at the Zoo, so has managed to get us reduced rates! Luckily not staying in a cage but in huts called Bandas which are set up for tourists/visitors. Will put some picture up next week (see our gallery for current pics).

First week at work was weird, as usual in a new job. Neither of us quite sure what we were doing or what we were expected to do. I'm working here as a public health officer but was told on day 3 that they have no current public health active at the moment due to funding problems. Have ignored this and have written a proposal for a nutrition assessment and disease profiling of the population in and around the park which I will start week after next.

Otherwise things going well, Entebbe is a really nice town, quiet, clean and surrounded by Lake Victoria. Have figured out the best food, entertainment and a local shop to sell us local baked good so all well here!

On to Helen.......

Yes all good after frst week at work, just having a nice friday night beer! I have as predicted not escaped fundraising ( i think it is my curse for being bad in a former life) so have spent the week writing a 10 page fundraising plan, still its nice to know that they really need it. I am also doing a bit of marketing of the Gorilla camp and probably lost of othere things! The office is lovely and the people very nice, we have got to sample some of the the local places and are learning a lot about Uganda and its history which is great (especially for me who knows no history!)

We are spending another week here and then we will be moving to the impenetrable forest (exciting!) where hopefully I will get to do a bit of gorilla researchand get out and about seeing whats going on inbetween my fundraising. its quite wet there so should feel right at home after living in cornwall......we may be back to entebbe sooner than we think to escape the cold and damp!

thats it from me for now, looking forward to our weekend living in the zoo and eating poo....

Hello both I'ts great to be able to read what you are both up to, very different from the times Si was working with Msf when we didn't even know where he was most of the time! It sounds as if you have landed on your feet, but avoid too much ' mothers ruin'. On the home front we were notified last friday that CQC were coming to inspect the practice the following tuesday, having run about like headless chickens for a hour or two, we realised that it was infact the perfect time. We had been preparing for this event for 2 years, so 'bring it on ', we passed with flying colours (we hope) the results are put on the cqc web sight! Keep typing love Annie xxxxxxxx
