We're now on day 4 in the lovely town of Hoi An. We plan to stay for another 6 nights so our pace has slowed down accordingly. We have weaned ourselves from the A/C to save 2$ a night, and of course, so that we can adapt in preperation for the humidity of Bangkok. Our hotel is 5 mins to the old town and a step away from 10 tailors and 4 cobblers. Our tailor is now our best friend--apparently we are harmonious clothing shoppers because she sees happiniess in our future. We now have piles of clothes at her shop waiting for adjustments and payment--2 suits, 2 wooly jackets, 1 sports jacket, 1 bikini, a tank top, and 1 skirt. All for about $200. And list may grow longer as the week progresses. We have yet to put in our order for shoes beacuse we are waiting for devine intervention--choosing your dream shoe sounds easier than it is. All of the shoes are about $10 so with that as lubrication the deal should go down in the next day or so. Of course, with the other hours of our days we've been taking our clothes off at the beach. What more is there to say, beaches are beaches but this one is gorgeous. The odd fruit and manicure saleswomen add clockwork to our otherwise watchless hours sunning ourselves, and the local boys that come out in the late afternoon to splash fully clothed in the sea, harassing us to buy them a soccer ball, has become routine.
The food has been amazing as usual, the fish with saffron grilled in banana leaf being our favourite. We plan to take a cooking course one of these days to learn how to make it. We ate it the night of the full moon festival, a monthly event when the townspeople gather in the lantern-lit streets of the old town to watch musical performances and send paper lanterns down the river. We were lucky to be here for it. Brandon is getting hungry talking about the fish--must run off to dinner! More on Hoi An soon...
