We visited the Mbamba Village Hospital where the doctor there showed us the room where mothers were recovering with their newborn babies. I had brought an instant camera with me for this purpose - I took family portraits of each mother with their baby and gave them their photos. Here is one mother watching as her life moment begins to appear on an instant photo.

In the southern part of Lake Malawi in the village of Mbamba is the village school. There are around 1,200 children enrolled in 8 classes, meaning there are over 100 children in each class from year 1 to year 8. The classes are under-resourced with low teacher to children ratio and insufficient books and pencils. Despite this, all the kids get school uniforms as this eliminates discrimination and gives the children the identity that they all deserve.

Meet Lloyd from Mbamba village. In Africa, kids hold your hands to demonstrate friendship, and to prevent anyone else from holding your hand. Lloyd held my hand as I walked through the village. All he wanted was to be my friend, and for me to play with him.
